Comprehensive Eye Health Exams
At Burns Eye Care we recognize that providing the best in vision care requires employing the best in proven technology. This doesn’t mean jumping on every ‘new-fangled’ device that rolls off of the High-Tech bandwagon. What it DOES mean is that we carefully watch the developments in eye care technology to see what passes the tests of scientific and clinical trials in the real world of diagnosis and treatment. Only then do we consider investing in them. The result…we critically review and evaluate the instruments and testing equipment that will bring the best care to the most patients at the least cost. Burns Eye Care is proud to utilize the following three instruments in the diagnosis and treatment of our patients:
Humphrey/Zeiss Matrix Perimeter
This instrument measures the threshold sensitivity of patients’ peripheral (side) vision to determine any defects in the retinal sensitivity caused by glaucoma, retinal pathology, or lesions of the visual pathway such as strokes, aneurysms, or tumors.
Zeiss Meditec GDx Polarimeter
The GDx uses infrared light to scan the optic nerve at the back of the eye and can detect the slightest amount of thinning of the optic nerve fibers. This allows for the detection of the earliest signs of Glaucoma and optic nerve disease. Its computer analysis also allows us to monitor patients who have glaucoma to see if there glaucoma is being adequately controlled.
Zeiss Visucam Retinal Camera
The Visucam retinal camera takes high definition digital images of the retina. It provides us with high resolution images that document a multitude of ocular conditions and allows us to carefully track any changes that occur with time. It is particularly useful in identifying and quantifying conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and macular degeneration.
